Binance's Convert feature lets you directly swap one token for another without placing orders on the exchange. The process is dead simple, but is the price competitive compared to regular trading?
You need a Binance account to use Convert. Sign up for Binance. After downloading the Binance app, find the "Convert" section on the home page or trading page.
What Is Convert
Convert is a one-tap swap from Token A to Token B. For example, swap ETH to BTC — select "From ETH to BTC," enter the amount, get a quote, confirm, and done instantly.
No need to place orders on the exchange, wait for fills, or deal with trading pair issues. You don't even need USDT as an intermediary — any two tokens can be swapped directly.
Advantages of Convert
First: Simple. No need to understand order books. Enter quantity, confirm price, done.
Second: Fast. Instant completion after confirmation — no waiting for fills.
Third: Supports any token pair. The exchange may not have a direct ETH/BNB trading pair, but Convert can swap ETH to BNB directly without going through USDT first.
Fourth: Zero trading fees. Binance Convert charges no trading fees. But don't celebrate too fast — the cost is hidden in the quoted spread.
Disadvantages of Convert
The biggest issue is the quote. Convert quotes include a "spread" — the buy price is slightly above market, and the sell price is slightly below. This spread is Binance's revenue from Convert and your hidden cost.
Spread size varies by token. For major tokens (BTC/ETH/USDT swaps), the spread is very small, typically under 0.1% — comparable to regular trading fees. For altcoins, the spread can be larger, potentially 0.5% or more.
Which Is More Cost-Effective
For large major-token conversions (like swapping a lot of ETH to BTC), limit orders on the exchange are more cost-effective. Maker fees are only 0.1% (0.075% with BNB discount), and you can wait for favorable prices.
For small or non-urgent token conversions, Convert's convenience advantage is significant. No need to place orders, wait, or potentially make two trades. A 0.1% spread on a few hundred dollars is just a few cents.
For altcoin pairs without direct trading pairs, Convert is the best choice. Otherwise, you'd need to sell to USDT then buy the target token — two trades' fees combined may exceed Convert's spread.
Best Use Cases
Small daily swaps: Use Convert — quick and easy.
Cleaning up dust tokens: Use Convert to swap into major tokens with one tap.
Large major-token trades: Use exchange limit orders — cheaper.
When precise price control is needed: Use the exchange — Convert can't specify prices.
How to Use
In the Binance app, find "Convert" on the home page or under "Trade." Select your two tokens, enter the amount. The system quotes a price valid for about 10 seconds. If you accept it, tap confirm to complete. If you don't confirm within the window, the quote refreshes and the price may change.
